DIY Mouthwash: Morning Breath Buster!

Fresh breath is a really big deal. Not only is it a sign of healthy oral care, but let's be real, staanky breath is embarrassing to be called out on. Morning breath... we're all guilty of it. I don't care if you're Giselle Bündchen or a simple mortal like myself.... brushing our teeth first thing in the morning to get rid of that roaring smell is a must unless you want people avoiding talking to you for the rest of the day (in which case if that's your goal, smart move my friend).

Have you ever looked at the ingredient list in the back of the label of a store-bought mouthwash? It's not foreign language, it's just a ton of chemicals you most likely can't even pronounce. I recently became a fan (more like obsessive scanning freak) of the EWG (Environmental Working Group) website/app where you can browse or scan pretty much any food or cosmetic product in your home to see it's chemical/toxic load and rating. As soon as I scanned the mouthwash I used I knew I wanted to replace it with a natural solution. If you're interested in my old mouthwash's rating click here to see for yourself or look yours up.

Naturally, I created this DIY Mouthwash Recipe that's not only gonna get the job done, but it actually supports oral health with ingredients like clove (mixed into the OnGuard Blend) which happens to be great for healthy gums/teeth. The added bonus: you can actually pronounce every ingredient in it. Win, win, win!

Here's what you'll need:

  • 16oz glass bottle (you can use a bigger size and adjust the ingredients accordingly)

  • Hydrogen Peroxide

  • Spearmint Essential Oil

  • Peppermint Essential Oil

  • OnGuard Protective Blend Oil

  • 12oz Distilled Water

  1. Add 4oz of hydrogen peroxide to the previously washed bottle.

  2. Add 10 drops of OnGuard Oil

  3. Add 10 drops of Peppermint Oil

  4. Add 8 drops of Spearmint

  5. Fill the rest of the jar (12oz) with distilled water

  6. Give it a gentle shake prior to each use

You can customize this recipe and add other oils like lime/wild orange/melaleuca, etc. Get creative, and if you try this with a different oil combo, let me know so I can try it as well!

May you have the freshest breath without the toxic load today and always, from this moment on!
